Paul Cunningham – born Essex, England, 1969. Lived and worked in Denmark as a professional chef since 1994, owner of restaurant The Paul, Copenhagen.
‘I’ve had a camera of some sort in my hand since I was 10 years old – first, my father’s old Praktika and afterwards his battered OM10.’
I published my first photo-rich book, ‘Madjournal’ with Andreas Wiking in 2002. ‘The Paul – en kogebog’ in 2004 and ‘Incognito Royale’ in 2007 - winning ‘Best Book Design Prize 2007 from ‘Forening for Boghaandværk’. ‘PAULS GRILL’ photo/food book will be published in April 2009, and ‘The world according to Paul/Around the world in 80 recipes’ (working title), will be finished and published for September 2009 – a work containing 80 food portraits by Line Thit Klein, 80 food stories & 600 to 700 of my own photographs, shot in various world destinations over the last six years. My latest weapon of choice is a Leica Digilux 3.
‘I have always felt most proud and most privileged to move within the circles of the many extraordinarily creative, talented, dedicated and delightful Danish photographers. To exhibit with such names is pure pleasure.’
‘Tokyo changed everything for me – everything I ate, touched, experienced and finally, shot was new for me. To be born again – creatively speaking.’
Paul – Copenhagen. October 2, 2008.
